Todd Phillips confirms 'Joker' sequel; Joaquin Phoenix back as supervillain
Todd Phillips, confirmed on social media on Tuesday that a sequel to the Oscar-winning 2019 film is officially underway.
Phillips announced the sequel by sharing a pair of photos on Instagram, beginning with a photo of the script's cover page
Phillips' Instagram post was an artistic black-and-white shot of Phoenix -- who won an Academy Award for Best Actor for playing the title character in the first Joker film
The first Joker movie was released in October 2019 as a standalone drama set in the Batman universe but outside the canon of the comics or other film adaptations.
While plot details for the sequel are currently unknown, folie deux, or the folly of the two, has been defined as a psychiatric syndrome.
The title of the sequel may refer to the Joker's psychologically dependent relationships with characters such as Batman and Harley Quinn.
However, it is not clear whether the two will be seen in the upcoming film
